You have extremist of all kinds, for example: the Confederate Flag waving redneck's, the Loose Liberal's, the LGBT's, the Bible Thumpers, the moderate middle class, and a host of Oddballs of every kind. A few things to keep in mind; many of them are packing guns, assume everyone in Oregon carries a gun. Not that they do but assume it anyway. Many of each type are stoners or drunks or both. Being marijuana is legal makes okay for Rednecks and Hippies to visit the same Pot Shops or grow their own. Assume everyone is stoned. And there is still allot of illegal trade in pot, I've seen it on Craiglist. Oregon is an interesting place to live. You'd probably fit in just fine.
You must have meant red with blue spots.

And, here, from the Wiki, is the population map, which shows why that map doesn't actually represent the effective politics of Oregon.

Also, a representative map, by the vote percentages, is much less starkly blue or red (with the exception of the Portland metro area and the counties east of the Cascades).

It also depends on which election you pick

Maps can be deceiving. But you're right the larger area with less population is red, also indicates some what the income level and education. I know allot of Eastern Oregon, spent plenty of time in Klamath, Lakeview, Bend and John Day. I don't think they have invented a dark enough Red for Harney County.

Another set of maps for the consideration for the OP or anyone else contemplating moving to Oregon. Unfortunately, the rural counties have much higher rates of dependency on social welfare programs than urbanized Oregon This is several years old but still rings true today.

Poverty in Oregon: Interactive maps show food stamps, welfare, Medicaid reliance by county | OregonLive.com

Here's an article in The Atlantic that discusses Oregon's generous welfare system:

ETA Roseburg continues to make the news in a bad way. This time, officials at the Veterans' Hospital have been turning away patients in order to improve their ranking. So sad.

Quote:
Fewer patients meant fewer chances of bad outcomes and better scores for a ranking system that grades all veterans hospitals on a scale of one to five stars. In 2016, administrators began cherry-picking cases against the advice of doctors — turning away complicated patients and admitting only the lowest-risk ones in order to improve metrics, according to multiple interviews with doctors and nurses at the hospital and a review of documents.

Never the less, these pink areas still voted majority for President Trump. The 'fly over' areas I like it.

Not only that, we don't have to be crammed into the several cities in this state and their rioting demonstrators.

True, I'm very much looking forward to having some breathing space, and a little peace, and quiet.

fully aware of that. again, this feels less unusual these days.

I can only imagine how much more emboldened those folks are these days.

(have spent the last 3.5 days road tripping through N. CA and southern OR)
