If you enjoy fall in Oregon, what are some of your favorite places to visit? Also, please post any photos you have of it's beauty during fall.

I'll start with some of mine from previous fall seasons as I look forward to this one.

The Gorge is beautiful during fall as the trees change color and waterfall begin flowing more after the rains.

I did a fall backpacking trip in the Wallowas many years ago. I don’t have pics in digital format, but found this fall trip report online…

I like to drive on the Elkhorn Scenic Byway through the nearby Elkhorn Mountains in Northeast Oregon to see the fall colors, specifically the Western Larch trees, more commonly called “Tamaracks”, that are scattered among the other conifers.

Tamaracks are “evergreen” trees that don’t stay green all the time. They are deciduous conifers. In October the chlorophyll in their needles breaks down and they turn from green to brilliant gold. In November the needles fall off and they grow back in the spring.

There's a hillside over in Polk County where the larches were planted so they'd form a smiley face when they change color in fall.

For pretty fall photos, Kings Valley is good. There are a lot of maples that turn color and there is the covered bridge.

I found this interesting as peak colors move from north to south. That's why I'm seeing so many photos of Northern Cascades and Mt. Rainier right now. But over the next few weeks we'll see much more color change in Oregon.
