I was terribly disappointed too when I realized how small 70 acres will be. I said why are they trying to cram a thrill park onto this small parcel of land when there is so much "open" land on I-Drive and Universal Blvd. Then I started to look at things more closely and their choice of land might be their only option. The park investors want to be on I-Drive or Universal Blvd because they are in the middle of all the hotels and tourists can easily make their way to and from the park. This first map is of the northern end of I-drive where the proposed site is. Notice there is no other viable option in this quadrant of I-Drive.

The next image is of the middle section of I-Drive which at first glance is a goldmine for the park's investors. They could start small and continue to grow into a much larger Cedar Point sized amusement park right? The county (since this is no longer Orlando proper) could even designate a sound buffer conservation area surrounding the park which would solve the current problem of upset residents nearby in Tangelo Park. Two major problems, one this land is Orange County not Orlando (investors want Orlando city limits for some rea$on), and two, this land is the buffer zone for Lockheed Martin. It's always surprised me when driving down Universal Blvd to look one way and see endless resorts and look another and see empty land with horses. Well just beyond those horses and trees is a huge defense contractor for the US Military, the empty land and horses is a disguise. The Westin resort was recently built on the Lockheed side of Universal Blvd. so it's not entirely out of the question. Plus, god knows we need something to buffer that buffer land so it doesn't feel like you're out in the sticks.

Lastly, there is the extreme southern portion of I-drive which is well into unincorporated OC. However, that area has seen a recent building boom and the only available land is a sensitive ecological area known as Shingle Creek which comprises the headwaters of the Everglades.

Sorry if this was already said, but maybe if they are going for taller/faster thrill rides they wouldn't need as much room as say a park with a lot of longer/slower (if you will) coasters...

^^JustinsMama: I wonder if the 364 acres of Cedar Point includes the resort, campground, and massive parking lot?? If so, the Orlando Thrill Park would only need a parking lot (not too big since there is adequate public transportation if staying on I-Drive). Therefore the 70 acres might be able to handle as you put it, plenty of awesome thrills!

^Where on I-Drive north of the convention center are they gonna find enough land? Of course they could put it further out, but then they'd have to market it a lot more and hope enough people go out of their way to find it. This was a perfect location.

It's a shame they don't take festival bay out and place it there. the mall is for all purposes dead. That would provide a large space for it.

I think you'd run into the same complaints because noise from coasters carries pretty far and Festival Bay is adjacent to this land. Sure, it would be better, but they'd never be allowed to make the kind of noise they desire even on FB land. Plus, this would have been an opportunity to revive FB a little bit since now it is passed on by outlet shoppers with the obvious exception of Bass Pro. Not to sound like a jerk but the joyful screams of theme park guests would not detract from the "lifestyle" of Tangelo Park.
