Could someone email me and let me know if there are any really good Christian schools in the Orlando area? What is the homeschooling atmosphere like? Thanks.

I'm not Christian (my son goes to the Jewish school (http://www.jewishacademyorlando.org/index/Home.html - broken link) and at least one parent must be Jewish to attend), but I hear good things about the Geneva Christian school for younger kids. Ignoring religion the best elementary private school is supposedly Park Maitland.

If your kid is middle-high school the best private school in town is supposed to be Trinity Prep -- which is a Catholic school and they insist the kids go to services daily. #2 (so I'm told) is Lake Highland with is Protestant.

Lake Highland is supposed to be more "well rounded" -- e.g., Trinity is superior academically but Lake Highland has a great sports program, and just very good over all (including academics).

Regarding home schooling, a friend of mine is home schooling her son this year and using something called the Florida Virtual School which is from Kindergarten through High School. Your student takes online classes and can attend the local public school for some electives (like band). She loves it. Her kid has ADHD type problems and so a school just could not meet his needs even though he is very smart. There are also home school support groups in Orlando.

First let me say that I found one Christian school that goes to the 12th grade and it is located in Altamonte Springs. I just relocated here from Texas and my husband and I are both Ministers and we debated on Christian school or public. We settled on public schools in Seminole county based upon research of newsweek an the other things that we heard about the schools. Academically it is great for my daughter who is fifteen but it is a bit fast paced for her. She has a strong relationship with Christ and she knows who she is in Him. Although she says she is amazed how others act and she knows she is different I think this will be a good challenge for her. I pray you find a great school and that this has been helpful. PS. There are no metal detectors at her school. We have heard stories from my niece who went to school in Chicago.

In addition to the schools listed by others, First Academy, with the First Baptist Church of Orlando is excellent. The homeschooling atmosphere is very strong. Take a look at Circle Christian School, which assists parents with homeschooling, has specific classes, athletics.

Here's the link for First Academy

There is also a homeschooling cooperative that I am aware of. I knew people some years ago who were involved with it, but no one recently. See link below.

There's also Champion Preparatory Academy in Altamonte Springs, FL, a litle north of Orlando, that is a little smaller. They also have classes.

BRINGING JOY BACK TO LEARNING!

Greetintgs,
Thank you all for replies. We are looking to rent in FLA for 6 - 9 months before we buy or make any permanent decisions. We want to be close to Disney and attractions, without living 'in' the city. We are on a Christian Camp right now in the mountains and are done here Sept/11. We'd love to give Fla a try, after being in WNY for all our lives. Altamonte Springs keeps coming up under our search criteria, so if anyone has any suggestions, we're open and ready to listen. I've been hs'ing for 17 years, and would put my youngest in a solid Christian school at this point. We're looking to pay $700 to $900 in rent and would not live in an area or condo without a pool. My son and I are swimmers.
We'd like to get season passes to Disney and Universal and just enjoy retirement and our youngest. Nothing more Blessed than a late in life baby! They're the best! I'd welcome to hearing from realtors for rentals, as long as you're not pushy and rude. I don't suppose there are any Mennonite churches in or near Orlando? One can hope! I am going to look at all the links now. I had a hard time finding my way back to this post. Is there a way to bookmark a post? Oh... I don't suppose there are any Amish communities around Orlando? ha ha I know. Is there a need for Foster Parents? Thanks again everyone God Bless.
