Hi
I am in school for a BSN and live in NJ currently.

Can anyone please tell me about the hospitals in Orlando and if the areas they are in are safe? Specifically the pediatric hospitals please? Is there a hospital system that you prefer?

Thanks! (I have a couple years to go before graduation but sitting here studying for finals...)

We have two main hospital systems: Orlando Health and Florida Hospital. They are scattered throughout the entire metro, and most are in safe areas. That said, I prefer Orlando Health, which is home to Arnold Palmer (children's hospital) and is right downtown Orlando.

Especially as an employee, I would strongly prefer Florida Hospital.

I beg to differ. Based on experience from various folks I know, hours are typically not as consistent with FL Hospital, with many not being able to land full-time jobs. Also, there is a STRONG preference towards SDA-affiliated folks.

Don't forget Nemours--they are a fantastic children's hospital and I've heard only good things from employees there. Other than Nemours, I'm voting for FL Hospital. My former position had me working with all the hospitals in town, and Orlando Health employees have had a tough few years with pink slips. I've been out of that position for 2 years, so maybe it's gotten better, but my first reaction is to stay away from OH. Again, you should probably look for articles on both hospital systems to see which one has been in the news lately, and for what reasons. Good luck!

Beg all you want. I'm a physician and ORMC is extremely physician unfriendly. I also never recall employee protesters outside Florida Hospital, but they were lined up on Orange Ave. in front of ORMC for months.

That's nice. Just relaying information based on experience. (Wife is a NP and owns an agency. Not talking out of my ass. Different experiences for everyone. You being a physician does not validate your OPINION anymore than it does mine.)

Thanks for everyone's opinions! The hospital system I do my clinical rotations in is very good to employers (doesn't have mandatory overtime, will reimburse for advanced education, etc). I guess I don't know what all to look for in a hospital yet but I appreciate these honest answers and glad to hear all the areas are safe. One hospital near an area I used to live, you just do not walk from your car to hospital alone.

Orlando Health seems to only hire bi#ches. Florida Hospital is a bit more friendly.
