From what I have read in here, it seems to be the place most talked about. However, isn't all a gated community? I was hoping to hear on neighborhoods that have character and charm instead.

Lake nona by far is the best area to live in around MCO. The time is now to buy property in Lake Nona. Lake Nona is the only area in Orlando with future growth developments. With the UCF research center and the hospitals coming to the area, the place will be flooded with new jobs and opportunities. The key is to get in now (buyers market) and hold on to the property for 5 to 10 years. Then you will be able to reap the benefits. Any questions about the area let me know.

Check out the Tivoli Woods subdivisions on Econ....you're right next to the 417, within 10 minutes of the 528 and about 15 minutes from MCO.

I'd definitely give Lake Nona consideration but there are some nice areas right around there that are nice.

You might also look into Avalon Park and Waterfield Lakes.

I just bought a home in Northlake Park at Lake Nona, mostly un-gated and adjacent to the prestigious L Nona GC development. These homes are new since 2001 or so, and there's a joint-use YMCA/Elementary School at the center of 4 subdivisions. There are substantial green-belt areas set aside. It seems quiet and because it's a new area, is one of the safest areas in Orlando. (That will gradually change with growth.) The Enclave at Northlake Park was a Morrison Homes development built out in 2004-5. My home inspection service passed the construction with high marks for this home completed 11/04. There are 250 homes with no through traffic by design. They range from 1600 to 2700 sq ft or so.

Whatever you do don't rent or buy anywhere on Semoran Blvd. from just south of Curry Ford Rd. up north to Colonial drive if you want a safe suburban feel

Good Job! That was the best investment you made. North Lake Park is gorgeous.
