Another restaurant from my younger days has gone bust. I remember when they built it in the late 70s, when they were the big competition the the Sambo's which was a couple doors down. When did it close?

Perkins closes four Orlando restaurants (http://www.myfoxorlando.com/dpp/news/local/061211-perkins-closes-four-orlando-restaurants - broken link)

I didn't notice that it was closed, but then again, I haven't driven that part of 436 in a while. The Kmart in that area is gone too.

maybe true, but not germane to the question. The store closed a few months ago. They also closed the one on University, near UCF. The Friendlys closed there as well.

We have lost quite a few restaurants
Bennigans - all
Donatos - all
Fridays on Colonial
CHiChi's - all
Amigos on Colonial and Semoran and Aloma
Fazolis -all
Unos - university & Colonial
Mister Sisters - colonial

to name a few off the top of my head.

I use to live in the Conway area and use to go to some of the above restaurants. I was on Colonial not too long ago and was certainly surprised that all these places had closed. Must be tough times. Very surprising. Is it because the mall is not doing well? It would seem like with the population around that area these places would do well. I guess it's the economy, stupid?

Perkins went thru bankruptcy several months ago. They closed down most of the older restaurants and some of the newer ones still remain open.

As far as the places around the executive airport are concerned, I believe there were rental agreement issues with the airport, the landlord.

They still have a Perkins by Full Sail on University. However, I agree with the statement regarding bad portions these days. When I was a kid in the early '90s they were a good deal and the food was plentiful.

Closing the Friendly's on University was a personal blow to me and my family being from New England.
