I know there are other posts on this topic, but I want some fresh opinions...

I've been living in the Hunter's Creek area of Orlando for over a year, originally from New York. As much as I really love Hunter's Creek, on occasions when I travel to areas such as Altamonte Springs or Waterford Lakes, etc., I see some really nice-looking neighborhoods with plenty of stores and things nearby.

My husband and I are in our late 20's with two young children and we want to buy a home next summer. We were originally planning to look only in Hunter's Creek, but now I'm tempted to check out other areas.

What areas in Orlando are perfect for young families (low-crime, good schools, shopping nearby...and affordable). I work in Hunter's Creek, but we have the option to move wherever and commutes won't be an option.

Thanks in advance!!!

I like Altamonte Springs, Winter Park, College Park, Baldwin Park, Downtown, Lake Mary and Dr. Phillips.

My overall vote would be for Winter Park, best schools, prettiest area, great people, convenient. but a little expensive. Love Stoneybrook (East) and Avalon Park as well.

Moved here in August from Nothern VA. We were looking at Oviedo initially due to the high rating of the high school at greatschools.net and finally found a great rental in Avalon Park. Timber Creek HS is great, band is great so we'll finally end up buying here if we decide to stay. Close proximity to Waterford Lakes does help in that decision, as well as close to UCF. We're thinking if we ever go back to NoVa, we can easily rent the house out. If my child is much younger, I'd probably move closer to the airport since we both work near the airport but I don't have the heart to move my child since we only have a few more yrs of HS left.

I usually look at the schools and that's how I decide where to rent/buy. Good luck!

For places for young families, Seminole County in my opinion is the way to go. The crime rate is virtually non-existent in the areas I'm recommending, the public schools are excellent, local shopping/services are prevalent and are in areas away from the traffic/congestion of the tourist areas and/or more densely populated neighborhoods. Check out Timacuan in Lake Mary, Tuskawilla in Oviedo, Wekiva Springs in Longwood or Heathrow (which has an expensive reputation but does have more moderately priced sections).
