Last night the Orange County Commissioners voted 5-2 to approve a pro-soccer stadium deal that all but shores up an MLS expansion team in Orlando. Here is an interesting article about the vote which includes an amazing video of the passionate fans of this team celebrating such a special moment in this city's history.

Please share your thoughts, feelings, and anticipation regarding Orlando reaching this milestone.

P.S. This is a celebratory thread so please take negative comments or anti-spending comments elsewhere, we are here to celebrate this day in sports for Orlando!!!

I was super excited, this is great for our region. I truly feel this was one of the better fits for Central Florida, baseball has just proven not to be attractive here, we already have basketball, TB is way to close for us to land another NFL team and I don't think hockey would be any more popular than baseball here. Soccer on the other hand has so much going for it. First off we have really strong youth participation here. Although soccer is not as popular nationally, locally it is very popular amongst our youth. Secondly, we have alot of international travelers and transplants to the area. Drive around our local fields and you will see people playing pick up games on open fields all over Orlando. Walk through the airport or I-drive and just try to count the number of soccer jerseys. Finally, the Orlando City Lions seems like a first rate organization which will only get better when they move to the next level. Great management, great marketing, great vision. Great move for our community.

Could not be more thrilled!! Sports brings people together, and with Soccer having international appeal it is something that our diverse population can all get behind.

Thank you urbanlife. I heard the 20 plus thousand we packed into the Citrus Bowl during the last championship game was a record for any minor league sport in the US so that's pretty cool.

And yayyyy for more-than-likely $50-$75 nosebleed seats to games that don't matter to help pay for a brand new stadium. Seriously..how many times have you gone to Amway since the first time you went just to check it out when it was new..? I guess a team not worth watching could have something to do with that though.

Well, we already know that will be far from the case. They said tickets will go up by about $2 per seat from current pricing for all the regular sections. So $17, $22, and $27 would be the new prices for the first year at least.

As for the Magic, they had the worst record in the NBA last year, but were #15 in attendance out of 30 teams.
