Good Afternoon All,

My father is looking to retire from his job in NJ, and move to the central Florida area. This is something my parents have talked about for years. They've gotten to the point where the property taxes are forcing them from their home.

They would like to spend no more than 200K on a new home in central Florida, but don't know what towns to begin their search.

My sister and I are thinking about moving with them, so we would need to live in a place that is close to jobs.

What towns in central Florida would be a good match in this situation? My parents need to sell their NJ home before purchasing a new home, so we do have some time to decide.

Thank you so much for your help.

Del Webb Orlando seems to have quite a few families there with adult children in residence, even though technically a 55+ community. Lovely trails, clubhouse & resort-like pool. This past spring, there were frequently adult children enjoying the amenities. And although Davenport itself is not a nite-life hot-spot, there are tons of activities in an easy drive. Only 15 min from Disney & Legoland in Winter Haven. Retail & tourism are biggest employers, I think. Orlando is a drivable commute for other opportunities.

Unlike most areas of the country there isn't really a true "jobs center" in Central Florida thanks to our sprawl development. I would instead focus on areas that seem more suitable to your own likes/dislikes. In terms of nicer places where homes with I'm assuming three bedrooms are widely available at 200K.....I would recommend towns like Lake Mary, DeBary, Deland (SE side in/around Victoria Park), Melbourne (northside area of Suntree), Viera, and Rockledge (west side). They're all areas that are largely safe, minus a lot of traffic/congestion and solid well-established neighborhoods for the most part.
