I don't know of specific developments but Winter Park is a great area, you can also check Baldwin Park.

That's a tough price bracket for safe and desirable. Check out Howell Crossing and Winter Park Village which are well kept older properties in fairly safe areas.

Check craigslist, private listings offer much better deals than going through leasing offices. However, just be sure it's not a scam, don't give out any information that could lead to a stolen identity.

I've been checking Craigslist for awhile and always see shared apartments all over WP for around $500. Another possiblity for the OP if they are willing to have a roommate.

This could be a great option to save some money and use it to invest with or put towards a downpayment for a home.
