I am curious as to what the area around Lake Nona (And sharing their schools) is like. from reading school information you would think it is a low income community (according to great schools, 96% of students at the high school are eligible for free or reduced lunch). Is the information I am reading wrong?
Please keep in mind that Lake Nona High also services students that live outside of the 32832 and 32827 zip codes. How does this affect you as a parent? Well there is a false sense of security when you live in an area as nice as Lake Nona. In the school zone map, the far north west quadrant covers primarily apartment homes.

Teens are teens, it is my strong opinion that in any high school you will face the same issues- regardless of free and reduced lunch. As for curriculum, the high school is top notch. This is why we relocated to the area in 2012. We have two that attend the high school. One is on the honor roll, plays varsity football, and stays out of trouble. The other, started freshman year with honors only to digress sophomore year into the crowd of students no parent would want their kids around.

Again, teens are teens, some rebel, some don't. Just keep this in mind and don't let sites that compile data or even the median sales price cover the fact that negative influences are out there.

Moved here 1.5y, rented in Lake Nona and was planning to move to Winter Park (seminole county-don't like these schools when i toured them) not the Orange county (nice winter park that I can't afford) to be in the city without having to use Toll or I4 much. After comparing schools to Seminole and Lake Nona. I stayed in Lake Nona. There are things that my kids are involved in the schools in Lake Nona area that are not provided in Seminole county schools. All the elementary schools are good. My daughter is in the gifted program and have to shuttle to another school due to the new elementary does not have this yet (supposed to have it this year). There are sunblaze, northpark and moss park elementary. Eagle creek ele opening fall 2015. They are building a new middle and high school (guessing that will service most of the 32822 -not part of lake nona- my guess). My other child is in lake nona middle and he loves it. His bus only takes lake nona area students. Free before and after school program. Not all HOA covers internet/cable. For family oriented and if you can afford-remember to buy in northlake as the HOA covers YMCA family membership. Very safe. I run at 930p and there are still people walking their dogs and running at that time. No specialty restaurants or grocery nearby so you do have to drive about 20-30mins to everything. It is nice to take 528 or 417 to disney area for movie, outings etc. Very active area, lots of cycler and runner/walker year round.

downsize to lake nona is there's CDD on top of the tax (500 to 800 dollars) a year. Northlake don't have CDD per ocpafl.org.

Two years later, I find myself with the same questions as the OP. I wonder where she chose to live and how it is going. If you're out there, please provide an update so I may learn from your experience.
