Hey all, I've been around the boards for some time and have learned to very much respect you all's opinions here. So, I must ask:
I'm planning on taking the wife out this weekend for an evening out. Money not being much of an issue, what are some good places to go/things to do? Dinner also included.
Thanks.

If money isn't an issue, charter the Grand One yacht at the Grand Floridian, have dinner catered with a butler, enjoy the scenery, and watch the fireworks from the water in front of the castle.

If you're looking to celebrate some quiet time together I'd recommend dinner at Cafe De France on Park Avenue in Winter Park. The food is your typical French cuisine that won't set off any culinary fireworks, but consistently good in my opinion and not formal so you can dress comfortably and relax. It's supposed to rain this weekend which I always find makes for a fairly quiet night on Park Avenue, and a nice break from a typical weekend night there. Stop in afterwards at Cafe Noam in Hannibal Square (W New England Avenue) for really good Gelato and Cappuccinos.

I'd never even heard of that. Thanks.
Sounds like a great idea, and I'll definitely keep it on my to-do list for the near future. That being said, I think I'll reserve that as part of a more eventful weekend -- like the start of a full weekend out, maybe with a night at the Grand Floridian or something.

Great suggestions, though.

Is there a specific type of food that you and your wife like or don't like?

She doesn't like the smell of most Asian restaurants. Other than that, anything goes.

Keeping in mind, I'm over in the theme park district….

For me, I'm a big fan of having a meal and then just wandering around. If Downtown Disney wasn't such a mess, I'd do something like go to Raglan Road for dinner and to watch the dancers and then just wander around by the waterfront to watch all the live entertainment. It still is doable, but it can be crowded because of the construction walls up.

For something a little more up-scale, I'd go to Capa at the Four Seasons (and then stay to watch the fireworks) or Bull & Bear at the Waldorf Astoria.

Out of the theme park zone, maybe the Columbia Restaurant in Celebration to get a big ol' paella, and then just walk around by the waterfront there.

Another possibility might be eating at one of the places in Pointe Orlando and then have some drinks in the Ice Bar and catch some improv at the comedy club there.

Rollins College is having a free production of the Magic Flute Friday night and you could hit the Ravenous Pig before or after.

I just don't think you can go wrong in Winter Park. I would take that over downtown and the theme park areas because you won't be dealing with college partiers or tourists. It's really just a more mature and sophisticated experience. If it were me, I'd start off at your restaurant of choice (Luma, Prato, Nelore, Blu, Panullos, Bosphorous are all good) maybe get some after dinner drinks at Prato and do a little dancing or take it easy and wine the night down at the wine room.

There is also the new kid on the block...Boca, and its reputation is quickly ascending. Boca is an establishment in Tampa and this is their second location. I haven't tried it yet. They even have a really nice speakeasy styled craft cocktail bar on the second floor. My personal favorite, though, is Prato because the food is awesome and it has decent prices. I also agree that you can't go wrong with Park Ave overall.
