I lived in Orlando for 5 years. I didn't really like it, but it's nowhere near the worst state. If you didn't move to FL from a Caribbean country, a South American country, Europe or Mexico, you most likely came from NY, OH or Michigan. Finding a native isn't tough outside of the major cities, but good luck finding many in the bigger towns.

Positives about FL - beaches, warmer weather, not fiscally bankrupt, 7-mile bridge, proximity to Caribbean, generally more family oriented (if that's your thing), but what else?

Negatives about FL - pretty much all crazy news stories involve Florida (bath salts guy, python eating 2 y/o, naked man in WalMart pouring milk on himself, etc. etc.), humidity, bugs, gators, bears, etc., haven for child pervs, low education levels (especially in Orlando and Miami outside of the colleges mainly because of the tourism industry not paying well or requiring much education), the most fraud in the entire country, sinkholes, and TOLL ROADS.

Ultimately, for an educated couple without kids and not planning on any, it simply wasn't the right place for us.

If you're looking for a simple life by a major body of water in the US, you're not going to do a whole lot better. San Diego is the ultimate, in my opinion, but it's also much more expensive than most places in FL.

No, not NC. The rest I can agree with, although not sure people from CA and CO or moving here in droves. I agree with you PA though.

yes- Tampa is N-Western folks -- all you have to do is read the FL forum not just the ORL. forum and see where they are all migrating from. As a native been seeing them from all states and countries
