There are to many cars here that are dangerous, or not street legal. Many of them driven by uninsured aliens.

I don't know why they stopped the inspections?
They tried for a while back in the 80s where you would have to bring your car to a state run inspection site it lasted a few years and that was the end of that !

I like the way they do it in NJ. All inspections other than dealer vehicles have to be done at state inspection stations. It takes the incentive for an unscrupulous mechanic to jack on repair items that don't need repair.

Personally I do think we should have inspections for safety. Too many idiots running around with one tail light, no brake lights, bald tires, and wipers that only work if two people are in the car so they can take turns pulling the string back and forth.

I also wish they would automatically impound any car without insurance.

I sort of think that if you want state run inspection stations for cars you should move to a state that has them. Florida doesn't need or want that level of government involvement and making Florida suck like states with them...well, just don't. It's one of many reasons I love Florida.

Exactly, go live in a "nanny" state before wishing it upon Florida. It doesn't get rid of unsafe cars, it just fines them, meanwhile everyone else has to pay $30-100 plus state certificate fee, plus mailing fee, plus waiting around for an hour or two... ugh. There is a reason why we see so many people from the Northeast and California moving out. Unless you are a multi-millionaire, when you add up all the fees and state taxes, on top of the cost of living, it becomes very expense to live. The worst thing is when people see movies and think, "oh California looks marvelous, we should change our laws and regulations in Florida to be like them." Then they come here to visit, end up parking in a zone that doesn't allow parking between "x to x and if you are x to x during x to x" and then find out the towing/parking ticket is $600 and it only took their car a couple miles away.

Quit whining about a $30 inspection fee - maybe you'd appreciate the fee more if you or someone close to you got hit by someone with a blowout on a bald tire. Or maybe you're in favor of increased taxes for additional police patrols to get all of the unsafe cars and uninsured drivers off the road. If you can't afford an additional $30, don't drive.

Or you get in an accident on Semoran because people are trying to push a broken car across two lanes.

That's not what inspections are for... they are for pollution. If you expect a full engine inspection including brakes, tires, etc... you're going to be looking at a lot more. How about not tailgating, so if someone has a blown tire, you don't crash into them?

Leftee, just move to a different state that suits your beliefs more. You will enjoy it

EXACTLY. Imagine the wait time if everyone had to get their entire vehicle inspected by state-run facilities every year -- AND THE COST!!!

Plus, most blowouts aren't typically from bald tires, but rather from unevenly-worn tires, usually resulting in belts popping out on the inside edge and causing separation. Bald tires will result in the car beings practically un-driveable long before they would blow out. Uneven wear is often the result of poor alignment and a driver being oblivious to what's happening. Perhaps we should also include alignment checks in these inspections? LOL

Let's just do a full bumper to bumper inspection and engine breakdown, it will only cost $500-1,000 plus repairs and take a full day. It will also give mechanics an opportunity to profit from all these people by not giving a passing grade unless the car meets a brand new car standard, so most Floridians better start running marathons to get in shape because I wouldn't be surprised if 30-50% don't pass a full bumper to bumper inspection.

It's these kinds of "feel good" ideas on why so many nanny cities/states have such high poverty rates. The very people they try to help are being crushed by their policies in these "feel good" areas. The wealthy will have no problem paying for these inspections and they will all pass them easily. Meanwhile, the people who are already struggling will now have to fork out cash for the inspection, and most of them will end up needing costly repairs, meanwhile they are missing work etc.
