In other news, Kroger will NOT be getting The Fresh Market.

The Fresh Market grocery chain agrees to $1.36 billion buyout - Chicago Tribune

Apollo Global Management will acquire them.

With or without The Fresh Market, Kroger would need more than Harris Teeter #34, The Shops at Amelia Market, 4800 First Coast Highway, Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034-5413, to further expand with supermarkets in the state.

Harris Teeter at one time had 2 more stores in the Jacksonville area in Mandarin and Ponte Vedra Beach, that opened the same time as the Fernandina Beach store. They were supposed to be fancier than Publix. I dont think they set themselves apart from Publix very much. They sold both Jacksonville stores to Publix. At the time HT was not owned by Kroger.

I think Harris Teeter, prior to being acquired by Kroger, overextended itself into distant markets with very few stores, and went stagnant in existing markets where it planned to open additional stores. I do not know if Harris Teeter intended to open stores statewide.

Harris Teeter, after being acquired by Kroger, is re-entering markets departed such as Greenville, South Carolina.
