Companies like Lucky's, Sprouts, potentially Earth Fare and as mentioned on the Florida Forum...Safeway is remodeling the three remaining Albertson's into new prototypes to "test the waters".

Trader Joe’s is coming to Lake Mary, right? – the bokey

Also completely unconfirmed but heard from a reputable source that Kroger has either landed or is in process of obtaining a parcel for a distribution center in Volusia County.

I don't know if Safeway will expand here. It's the same company as Albertson's. You would think the longtime Albertsons people at the corporate office are like, "Expand the Safeway brand in Florida? No! Been there done that."

One year ago, the big rumor about Kroger is that they were going to buy Winn-Dixie, or at least buy the Florida stores. It didn't happen. Do you think them buying The Fresh Market would result in them bringing regular Kroger stores to Florida?

There's really nothing new in the grocery landscape in my opinion. Florida can only attract specialty stores and discounters.

One exciting thing is the new Winn-Dixie flagship in Jacksonville (https://www.jaxdailyrecord.com/shows...tory_id=546983). I was there recently and it is amazing. I think this style of store and even the pre Bi-Lo acquisition remodels like the one in Apopka do better in the deli/bakery/prepared foods departments than the latest Publix prototype in DP and Winter Park, which are the kinds of stores Publix is building across North Carolina. Of course, the problem with Winn-Dixie is that they don't have the kind of capital to do a full-scale overhaul of its fleet of stores.

Trader Joe's won't come to Lake Mary, if anything they'd open a store in Altamonte Springs.
I'm ready, bring it on

I also wouldn't mind a Lucky's or Sprouts

sad to read the cattle farm will be developed on that corner, wonder if this is the whole farm or just part of it.

Lucky's is a specialty gourmet grocer like The Fresh Market. Sprouts Farmers Market and Earth Fare are specialty organic grocers like Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe's.

Albertson's three remaining Florida stores have been in the Houston Division. After the conversion to Safeway, I wonder if they will be transferred to the Eastern Division.

Kroger has been speculated to further expand into Florida. It already has a presence through one Harris Teeter store in Nassau County and several Tom Thumb convenience stores in the Pensacola area.

Options for Kroger expanding in Florida are (1) further expand with the Harris Teeter division, (2) expand organically with Kroger Marketplace hypermarket stores, and/or (3) acquire an existing supermarket participant.

Kroger could be challenged to increase its presence in the the southeastern United States. Publix is expanding into Virginia, and it may be in position to enter additional states.

Winn-Dixie could be an acquisition target for Kroger or Albertson's if one decides to further expand in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Its distribution centers, now owned and operated by C&S Wholesale Grocers, would have to be acquired.

The big news at this point last year was a rumor that Kroger would buy Winn-Dixie. It didn't happen. Now the rumor is that they will buy The Fresh Market.

Regardless of what happens, there are plenty of empty Winn-Dixie and K-Mart buildings that need new tenants. :-)

The Fresh Market is a specialty gourmet grocer, not a supermarket. It could be acquired by Kroger, but it will not help Kroger further expand into Florida in the supermarket segment.

I am afraid there will be more vacant spaces as more Winn-Dixie and Kmart stores are closing. Southeastern Grocers has already closed and announced the closure of three stores (1 Winn-Dixie and 2 Bi-Lo) in Louisiana and South Carolina. Winn-Dixie #2270, Waterford Lakes Village, 12500 Lake Underhill Road, Orlando, Florida 32828-7100, is another store that is closing.

It'll be great to have Kroger come into the market here. That was the prominent grocer in Nashville and Publix was the new comer. It'll be interesting to see how they do in the market here.

Publix entered Tennessee through the acquisition of Albertson's stores in the Nashville area in 2002. It is possible Publix may expand westward with further expansion in Tennessee into Memphis and enter Kentucky, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Its future Jefferson County, Alabama, distribution center, projected to open in 2017, could help support this growth.

Kroger further expanding in Florida, if organically, will create competition against Publix and Walmart and possibly weaken Winn-Dixie further.
