Do houses in Orlando area come with shutters? If not, what you do when the hurricane come? The home we had in south Florida was built in 2005 and is equipped with metal sheet shutters. The home we are looking to buy in Orlando is built in 2005 too but no shutter. Is it normal?

Since the advent of hurricane resistant windows, the need/desire for shutters just isn't necessary anymore.

We have plywood in the garage cut to the size of the windows. We've only put them up once in 12 years and that was for Irma.

Except that builders arent using these windows in new builds unless you pay for them as an upgrade.

As far as Irma - I didn't do anything as I lease at the moment and none were available. I have renters insurance if anything did happen though.

When I build/buy - I will be ensuring that impact/hurricane resistant windows are utilized.
