Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know anything about Ave Maria? We are looking for our retirement home and finding out that the choices can be overwhelming. We are not interested in 55 and over and would like to be around families. Ave Maria looks very interesting. Also can not decide where to live. Health Care is somewhat important (close to good doctors and hospitals). Any advice would be welcomed. Thank you.

Naples = 90% White and senior citizens

Orlando = Melting pot of families

Seems like there are more choices than those two which are radically different even within Florida.

Naples is quite affluent, all around. If you are not coming in with a stockpile of cash, I wouldn't consider Naples.
I also wouldn't consider Orlando if I was getting older.

You couldn't have picked two more disparate places to live in the state of FL, and of course in the Orlando forum you're going to get more/less a one-sided view. The Naples-Fort Myers area is much less congested and a good bit more appropriate for retirement than the increasingly congested suburban sprawl of Orlando in my opinion. While Naples proper is quite expensive towns nearby like Bonita Springs or Estero offer the same conveniences minus the sky-high costs. Ave Maria is out in the middle of nowhere and roughly an hour's drive from the nearest decent hospital which doesn't seem like a good idea as a retiree. Check out Tidewater by Del Webb in Estero or Valencia in Bonita Springs.

I tried to get my dad to retire near Orlando but he wanted to go to someplace on the coast and with more people his age. It's also much less expensive to live where he retired in Spring Hill, not sure the cost of living in Naples. The Villages might be a good option if you want to in a retirement area and close to amenities in Orlando.

Naples avg age is 66, the op wants to be around families, this is a no brainer and has nothing to do with bias.

It's actually not a no-brainer if one has any familiarity with that area. North Naples is very family-oriented and is anything but a retirement village with over 20% of the population under college age and over 50% of the population under the age of 65. North Naples schools are excellent as well which attracts families.

I have a couple college friends from there, they said it's pretty much white old people, just asked them about 10 minutes ago.
