While I know there aren't any "bad" communities in Windermere, are there ones that are more desirable than others? I read somewhere that the Summerport and Lakes of Windermere communities were "lower end" apparently, whatever that means. Anyone have any knowledge on which communities are the better ones? Thanks.

The more desirable part of Windermere largely doesn't have subdivisions. If you look at Windermere on Google Maps, the most upscale/desirable part of Windermere would start east of downtown on Chase Rd. around Keene's Point, and then covers the area including downtown and all the way west over to Apopka-Vineland Rd., and north to where Windermere merges into Gotha around Park Ridge Gotha Rd. and Westover Roberts Rd. Essentially the areas between and around Lake Butler and Lake Down. Some of the higher-end subdivisions include: Isleworth, Keene's Point, Lake Butler Sound, Lake Down Crest, Windermere Downs, Marina Bay, Windermere Club, just to name a few. But some of the most desirable streets are the unpaved dirt roads in downtown Windermere.

Thanks for the info. I know "actual" Windermere is fairly small and everything else is "Windernear." I drove around the downtown area when I was there back in September and I thought it was beautiful and liked the dirt roads. I know that area is pretty expensive and I'll likely be winding up in "Windernear." I'll look into some of the communities you mentioned. Thanks!

Looked up some of those more upscale communities, most are definitely out of my price range lol. I guess that was to be expected.

The new section of Windermere is really developing and is becoming an actual nice community rather than just being referred to as Windernear. Honestly, just tour homes in your price range. There isn't a secret community or anything like that. Just tour homes and you'll see what communities you like by doing that.
