I am seriously considering moving to Orlando from the East. Any suggestions or advice. I have worked for the Federal Govt for 27 years so i am in process now of applying for all opening in Orlando that I qualify for. I figure eventually one of them will offer me position.

Suggestions on locations, houses, neighborhoods, etc.

My daughter is coming down in January to work for Disney so the sooner i get things figured out the better.

Do you care about schools? If not I'd go for Winter Park, College Park, or Thornton Park for a more social/urban atmosphere. If you like Anytown USA, there is Lake Mary and Oviedo, just to name a few. There are a bunch of therads about neighborhoods on here that you can read.

Default Orlando

Schools are not an issue.....so for me I am more looking what is close to Disney, Orlando for me i.e. work hopefully if I can find a govt agency with an opening, inexpensive housing KEEP IN MIND IN PHILADELPHIA COSTS ARE OUTRAGEOUS. Also, my daughter is looking into the law enforcement fields in Orlando since she couldnt get into Philly PD due to budget cuts. My whole family is Philly PD....

I just think Florida is a better place for us. We are there alot and the weather works for me.. I cant take the cold anymore and I wanted to retire in 5 years and move to the Orlando area so if I can transfer now I figure since my daughter is going to be there why not.

Any suggestions, advice, thoughts are deeply appreciated.

Clermont might be good for you or certain parts of Winter Garden...(I can't really tell you which parts as we are just starting to research that area) but I've seen info on the neighborhood of Independence in Winter Garden and that looks really nice. (There are some apartments in Independence called Falcon Square that look nice).

Budget cuts are very bad down here as well, possibly worse than Philadelphia. Does she already have a job offer at Disney? There are always Orange County deputies around at Disney (especially if she works in Security) who might be able to keep her up to date on the hiring situation of the Sheriff's Office.

Here is the employment page of the Sheriff's Office:

Law Enforcement Positions

Here is the employment page of the Orlando Police Department:

Police Recruiting

There are also surrounding county Sheriff's Departments and losts of small city departments.

I'm looking at Falcon Square right now, but it's so darn expensive. Quite a few of the people at work live there and every one of them loves it, but a lot of them are having to move out when their lease comes up because the deals that they got when they moved in are expiring. But I definitely like the Clermont and Winter Garden areas in general.

This area is no less expensive than Philly. Find a job, then worry about where to live.
