I worked for the Associated Press right out of college. We went and covered the presidential conventions. In Atlanta the heat was sticky and the minute you'd walk out the door this film would just suck to your whole body.
I was a bit hung over on one such ocassion and had to walk in the blazing sun for blocks to get to the undergroud station and then they drop you off 2 to 3 blocks from the convention center. I was walking downtown to the main street where the CNN tower and convention hall were. I noticed it was unbelievably quiet. In a daze and stupor I walk off the curb and found myself in front of 12 rows of Military Police with helmets on and their sheilds up and I thought 'wait I'm still dreaming." Then behind the MPs was the Reverend Al Sharpton with Tawnya Brawly on a stage with a microphone then I twisted my head to look behind me and coming up over the hill were the men in white sheets some on horseback, yeppers the KKK and I was standing in the middle of it.
I also got mugged and almost killed on that same trip. Another story for another time.
I did get to meet a lot of people. 5 United States Presidents, JFK Jr. and Jesse Jackson gave the most riviting speech and a number of Network news anchors. And there was on instance on an elevator where myself and the boys were discussing sex and laughing to tears and one question I tapped this guy on the arm and said, "So, what do YOU think about that?" That person turned out to be Alexander Haig, Secretary of State who wanted to blow the hell out of everyone after Reagan was shot. He got out and I let the door close and we all busted out laughing.
I am too old now to be a party animal but not too old to have a mischevious side to me and oh I love to drive fast but not when my grandsons are in the car.
Don't know how much you know, but I love trucks, women, and stirrin' the pot! Country music, horses and dogs are my passions! Stubborn as all get out. And my girlfriend says I'm cute!!
