Morning y’all
. . . . . Didja Know?
Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only two signers of the Declaration of Independence who
later served as president, both died on the same day - July 4, 1826 which was the 50th anniversary of
the Declaration.

On his death bed John Adams uttered his last words. They were "Thomas Jefferson survives."

It is rumored that upon Adam's death the messenger dispatched to carry the news to Jefferson's Virginia
home actually passed a messenger dispatched from THAT site to Adam's home, also bearing sad tidings.

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams

Amazing! I didn't know that, but then I don't know too much about the early days of our country.

Actually, I did know that, having seen the miniseries about John Adams.

BTW, I thought that miniseries was well worth the viewing. It has all the Revolutionary drama you could want: Washington's apprehension, all of the debate over what to call the first leader, Abigail Adams as a feminist, Franklin's inventions, and, my favorite, the rows between Jefferson and Hamilton.

Interesting factoid Joy, I kinda remember overhearing the parents talking about that when I was a youngster. Seems they were upset when they saw AksarbeN riding one of the horses through the vegetable patch...

That miniseries is where I first learned about today's 'Didja know' as well! It was very interesting to learn that they both died on the exact same day, on July 4th, and on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Truly amazing!
