All of the above answers are part of the reasons for moving back east. Palm trees just don't do it for me in the fall and winter!

Well this is my first autumn in Alabama so I don't know yet ~ not use to 90 degree weather on October 3rd though ~ but I like it.

Back in Michigan my favorite things were of course the color, driving up north and to the UP for the fall color changes, Mackinaw Island in the fall, taking the kids on hay rides, pumpkin patches, raking HUGE piles of leaves in the yard and jumping in them, getting donuts and cider at the cider mill, the annual zoo boo at the Detroit Zoo, decorating for Halloween, shopping for their costumes. Did I mention I LOVE fall?

I grew up out in the country and fall always meant raking up the fallen leaves and burning them. I just absolutely love the smell of burning dry leaves.

I know, gasp, gasp, we were ruining the environment--depleting the ozone. Folks, we're talking 1960s...we unknowingly did a lot of bad things to the atmosphere.

I'll probably go to hell for it, but I'll say it again....I just absolutely love the smell of burning dry leaves.

I hardly ever smell it anymore. But can still enjoy seeing all the harvest-type decorations (corn stalks, hay bales, pumpkins, scarecrows, etc.).
