Morning y’all
First I want to thank our friend Buddy for today’s DJK
In a world that’s so competitive and cutthroat, moments like this really stand out.
. . . . . Didja Know?
During a softball conference doubleheader and the final playing days for 2 seniors from opposing teams
- Western Oregon & Central Washington - a twist of fate and torn knee ligament brought them face to face.
Western Oregon’s Sara had never hit a home run in her career; most likely why in her excitement she missed
tagging first base on her run home after hitting the ball over the fence. When doubling back to tag first, her right
knee gave out and she crumpled to the ground.
As her coach was having to make the difficult decision of sending in a substitute - one that would cost Sara her
only home run in 4 years - she heard a voice "And right then," the coach said, "I heard, 'Excuse me, would it be
OK if we carried her around and she touched each bag?'"
The voice belonged to a starter from the opposing team, Mallory, with her own chance for a postseason appearance
also hinging on the outcome of the game - she was stepping up to help a player she had only known as an opponent
for 4 years.
Mallory and her team’s shortstop lifted Sara off the ground and supported her weight as they began a slow trip around
the bases, stopping at each one so Sara’s foot could tag the base.
They finally reached home plate, to a standing ovation from the fans, and the 2 Central Washington players passed the
home run hitter into the arms of her teammates.
That is a very good story indeed, thanks for sharing Joy.
