Next month marks the twentieth year of the Festival Of Speed, now one of the premier classic car events in the World. It will be attended by well over a quarter of a million visitors.
Twenty years ago I turned up early for the first day, no marshalls were to be seen and I was desperately trying to find my way into the event.
I took a few turns- still no-one- and found myself on the racetrack! I drove up it and eventually parked my car by a hedge, where now the Concours d'Elegance is now held!
I had the car day of my life, seeing historic cars up close.
I exited by following race competitors out of the event!
I don't go anymore. Too many go as it is a social event, and car nuts like me can't get close to the machinery, which is why I went in the first place.
By way of a long intro, my peeve is about events that grow and grow, and possibly get spoilt in the process.
Events get too big.
I went to this Minnesota car/rod show 2 years ago. Over a 11,000 entries. Man I was tired after all that walking. Took 3 days to recuperate. It was fun though. Main Page

Crowds intimidate me majorly-the more people/greater the density, the worse it is.
On other hand, it's awkward & discouraging if nobody/hardly anybody shows up to an event.
I'm also a car person. Not racing but I love cars. I don't go to the racing events but I do other events and know what you are saying.
As I get older, I'm more inclined to watch the event on TV is possible. Never like crowds but as I'm getting old I avoid them.
Take Black friday for instance. I used to be up at the crack of dawn rushing out to the stores for the great buys. Ohhhhhh the rush was exhilerating and exciting. But no more. I dont'; go out at all on black friday.
People get nuts too. Every year you hear of people getting trampled on by the crowd that are supposed to be human beings. There have been assaults, murders.......it is awful. They go freaking nuts.
Good peeve, Jezer. While it is good for the folks putting on the event, as well as local vendors etc, it's a shame when it gets sooooo big it takes the fun out of it.
