Good morning peevers.

Best wishes to you all at the start of the weekend.

My thoughts turn to what food to have over the weekend. I already have meat purchased from the local farm shop and I'm looking forward to lamb chops tonight and a small roast chicken for tomorrow.

I like things relatively plain and simple- just like me.

How about you?

Maybe you like these fancy 'jus' or embellishments and some are okay, others too fancy for my taste.

I reckon if the ingredients are good then there is no need to over do things.

My POTD is;

Making food over fancy.

Whilst the flood situation in our immediate environs is not great, around here is getting pretty serious.

Here's some photos taken yesterday afternoon from the front yard and from the bedroom;

The Japanese have always said that we eat with our eyes first. I agree with that and I spend quite a bit of time on my presentation. After all, look what happened when Heinz experimented with the color of ketchup.

Those pictures do make the flooding look pretty serious, Jezer. I've heard the water is waist-deep in some parts of the U.K. I hope the weather trend changes soon. We really need some of that rain; I wish you could send it over here!

As for the peeve, I heartily agree. Simple food, well-prepared, is best. My late mother, bless her soul, was one of those who liked to "fancy up" everything she cooked. You could never get the same meal twice at her house because she was constantly perusing women's magazines and cookbooks looking for new recipes to try. The more offbeat or unusual the ingredients, the better she liked it.

I'm the opposite. I love plain food and never get tired of it. Nothing in the world beats a perfectly-roasted chicken with a crisp, golden skin and juicy meat. You don't need all those gravies, sauces and exotic seasonings when good-quality food is cooked just right.

Sushi - it's just a bit of rice and a bit of fish.

Good morning. Jez, you've boiled it down! The highlighted sentence is it in a nutshell. There's nothing like fresh ingredients, paired with a minimum of seasonings. Just the other day I made simple potatoes with a smidgen of butter and freshly chopped parsley, some salt. A small roast chicken and some corn completed the meal.

Concerning your current weather over there, Yikes. I've seen pictures online that showed massive waves hitting some southern coasts. Is that normal? If I didn't know better, I'd say it looks like the Mother Land is sinking.

Totally agree with you. I much prefer simple when it comes to food.

That last photo kind of puts the amount of flooding you have into perspective-hopefully it'll stay away from your house.

But I just have to ask-in the 1st photo, on the left there's fence (I think). What's it made of?

Being a trained chef, many moons ago I wanted to make fancy meals all the time. But, I learned quickly that simplicity can overtake the fancy, pretty darn easily. I love to cook and make a nice healthy and filling meal each night, but it no longer has the fancy dancy of yesteryear when I was young and thought I knew everything about cooking and eating! But I do like to make fancy desserts just because!

Love your photos Jez.
