Has anyone seen this photograph of the pelican in St. James Park in London, England that caught and swallowed a live pidgeon? Apparently the pidgeon struggled quite a bit before the pelican was able to swallow it. People watching were shocked. This photo is just before the pidgeon disappeared down the Pelican's gullet. There are five pelicans in St. James Park and they've been present for over 300 years and are fed a daily diet of fish and a multi-vitamin. After this photo was publicized, it's emerged that pelicans have been seen eating live pidgeons before, even filling their gullets with water to drown the birds before swallowing them. I thought you might find the photo interesting.

This one is far cuter...this is a squirrel eating an ice cream cone

Wow.
I saw a video of this and the caption says that the pelican could not get the pigeon down, but it sure looked to me like it went down.
We see pelicans here all the time and I've only ever seen them going for fish, but if they are opportunistic eaters I suppose anything goes down the gullet.

Perhaps I should nab a pelican off the beach to take care of the pidgeons roosting on my attic window ledge
