Might not use it a lot, but it sure is good to have. I remember articles in the 1990s about how cellphones cut down on crime because people could call for help. Before a person could be a sitting duck to anyone who might do them harm. Now they can video anyone anywhere, while calling for help. Yeah, it's ridiculous that some people are into their phone all the time. But I'd rather have the option of having them than not.

DIL could use up the minutes to call family out of the country, since their plan charges a premium for international calls.

Days on wife's Tracfone were about to expire, although she had about 2600 minutes available. We got some special promos to use and we were more interested in days of service than minutes, so now her phone is loaded and ready to use for the next 2 years with about 3200 minutes. Probably will have close to that when the 2 years are up.

I know there are some who will say that it is a total waste for her to even have a phone, but I feel better knowing she has it if needed.
FYI on your Tracfone.. if you have a account.. and they send you use a 60 min card.. and get 40 free min.
And you don't get the 40 free min.. send them a complaint... the majority of the time they will say .. sorry and bump you forward 90 days.. I have been bumped forward so many times I have excess of 3000 days.. and with these new triple air time phones.. it's that much better.. for those that don't use Tracfone they have several phones.. you add a 60 min card.. you get 180 minutes on the phone plus 90 days.. and with a account set up online to your email.. they will send a message add a 120 min card.. and use promo code XXXXX .. if you don't get the promo complain.. !!!

Don't think I've ever used one, wouldn't have a clue how.
Don't own a mobile device, but my individual circumstances do not necessitate having one.
Desktop computer, landline phone, & digital camera (a recent concession to new technology) are more than adequate for my low-intensity lifestyle.

Cell phone is in the vehicle primarily for emergency use. I doubt if I have more than 5 minutes each month in calls and that's usually for calling from grocery store to see if anything was forgotten or needed.

Slightly off topic, but digital cameras I do have! I think they're great.......... I can go on holiday, and snap away, then all I have to do is take a look, and delete the photos that aren't any good.

In the old days of film cameras, everything got developed in the shop, and of course some photos were bad ones. Now, I can go to occasions like say, my son's wedding last year, and just keep taking pictures knowing I will get some good ones for the album. I got a great one of my ex wife scowling at me, over my son's shoulder......... it was so good I had it enlarged...........

I only use my phone when I receives calls, which is... never. I don't have any internet access on it and I miss my older phone because the one I have now is tactile and I can't write properly with it.

Mine is an ancient Nokia thingee. I turn it on when I want to make a call, which is almost never. I have it mainly for car breakdowns, and I have used it once when that happened. If some delivery moke insists they will call me I leave it on until said moke calls. Then off again........for days, or months.

I have one of those flip phones but I haven't used it in almost 2 years.

Since I was no longer going out of town on semi-regular road trips I didn't feel the need to keep paying the bill. I do not miss it.

I shake my heard whenever I see someone with a device glued to their hand and walking like they are drunk. I've seen this many times and wonder what could be so important. Can't relate...

You can also broadcast the crime to a live audience via Periscope (app).

A few years ago I might have come onto this thread and said that a phone is a phone and is useful as such- why would you want one that can take photos and do these other things.

Having then progressed to an Android smartphone, then to an iPhone 5 and now an iPhone 6 I wouldn't be without it.

Take last week when we went and stayed up in London; the iPhone told me that the train was on time, I was able to check the weather and that there were no road delays up to the railway station.

On the train I looked at the latest news, I could track exactly where I was which I found fun.

In London I got lost a couple of times and used the maps. I had my restaurant booking confirmed through my email, took photos (I'd forgotten my proper camera but the photos I took were pretty decent), oh and I phoned my daughter- could have done it via video if I'd wanted.

This only touches the surface of what's available.

If you don't want one then fine, but for many they are both useful and fun.
