Happy Thursday! Thanks BJH! Great questions!
Today's Questions: Did your mom work outside the home? If so, doing what? My mother did some part-time work at home for a photography studio. She tinted black and white portraits that they sent her, then she mailed them back to the studio. My stepmother was a bank teller, then she worked for a large defense contractor in a clerical position.
What type(s) of work did your dad do? During World War II he was an aircraft mechanic, and later he had a supervisory position at a large defense contractor.
Did you have step-parents? Both my parents remarried, so I had both a stepmother and a stepfather.
Did your parents/step-parents have any hobbies or interests? My mother loved to bake and do needlework.
My father was an amateur musician.
My stepmother liked card games, bowling and dancing.
My stepfather was disabled, so he couldn't pursue very many activities, but he did enjoy fishing and camping out when he was well enough.
How have their occupations or interests influenced your life? My father's love of music influenced my life greatly. We always had classical LPs in the house, and I grew to appreciate it even more than he did. He and my stepmother weren't very happy about it when as a teenager I took an interest in opera. ("What are they screaming about? Turn off that catfight!") I had to wait until they left the house to listen to my records.
Foodie Questions: What slice of pie would you like today? Cheesecake
Have you cooked using alcoholic beverages or liqueurs? If so, which ones? Yes, I have cooked with wine, sake and brandy. Sometimes I even put it in the food (Sorry, old joke. )
Do you own a George Foreman grill or other "As seen on TV" kitchen product?
If so, did/does it work as intended? No, I've never bought anything like that. I have a deep mistrust of the claims made on TV commercials.
Just for fun: If you were 20 years old and just starting out in life, which one personal quality would you rather have:
-Athletic as an Olympian?
-Smart as a genius? <---- This one
-Attractive as a model?
Today's Questions: Did your mom work outside the home? If so, doing what?
After being a stay at home housewife for 22 years, my mother went back to work and became happy for the first time in years. She was a CPA for the next 20 years (and had been one for a few years before she married.)
What type(s) of work did your dad do? Professor and author.
Did you have step-parents? N
Did your parents/step-parents have any hobbies or interests? My mother was interested in antiques. I can't think what interested my father outside of his work. Maybe the farm.
How have their occupations or interests influenced your life? I share my mother's interest in antiques.
Foodie Questions: What slice of pie would you like today? I'm in the mood for something really tart. How about blackberry or rhubarb.
Have you cooked using alcoholic beverages or liqueurs? If so, which ones? Not often. Sometimes I poach fish in white wine.
Do you own a George Foreman grill or other "As seen on TV" kitchen product?
If so, did/does it work as intended?
Just for fun: If you were 20 years old and just starting out in life, which one personal quality would you rather have:
-Athletic as an Olympian? Would make me in better physical condition in this phase of life, I think.
-Smart as a genius?
-Attractive as a model?
Today's Questions: Did your mom work outside the home?
If so, doing what?
Independent career woman where most others of her generation weren't.
What type(s) of work did your dad do?
Career Army
Did you have step-parents?
In later years, none that I ever lived with.
Did your parents/step-parents have any hobbies or interests?
Many wide & varied and way more than I could ever possibly list here.
How have their occupations or interests influenced your life?
Actively learned early on there is always more to learn, do, see, achieve and enjoy, you just have to have the self-motivation to pursue it.
Foodie Questions: What slice of pie would you like today?
You really have to ask? Chocolate pie from scratch w/meringue, always!
Have you cooked using alcoholic beverages or liqueurs?
If so, which ones?
Wine & beer for food and a few liqueurs for some desserts.
Do you own a George Foreman grill or other "As seen on TV" kitchen product?
If so, did/does it work as intended?
Just for fun: If you were 20 years old and just starting out in life, which one personal quality would you rather have:
-Athletic as an Olympian?
-Smart as a genius?
-Attractive as a model?
Why not all three and more? I have never - or would I ever again - pigeon-hole myself into just one excelling quality, we're all capable of doing/being all of those and a whole lot more if we so choose, go and learn and do and see and enjoy all this world has to offer would be my advice to any 20-year-old, the only limitations any of us have ever had, regardless of our upbringing or circumstance, are the limitations we put upon our own selves! (Stepping down off my soapbox now. )

Have you cooked using alcoholic beverages or liqueurs? If so, which ones? Nope
Do you own a George Foreman grill or other "As seen on TV" kitchen product? Yup
If so, did/does it work as intended? The Foreman grill was OK. Nothing spectacular. My favorites are the "Ov" Glove Oven Gloves | The Official AsSeenOnTV.comâ„¢ Shop and the Miracle Grill Mat Miracle Grill Mat | Grilling Essentials | As Seen On TV.com . Both are great. Even take one of the gloves camping with us to get pots and pans off the camp fire.
Just for fun:
If you were 20 years old and just starting out in life, which one personal quality would you rather have:
-Athletic as an Olympian?
-Smart as a genius?
-Attractive as a model? I'd be happy with a little of each. Wouldn't mind being a little athletic, and smart, but not a genius.
I'm already good looking so 2 out of 3 aint bad! lol
My dad built trucks at a company called Seddon's. This was a very well known truck builder back in the 50s to the 80s here in England. He got me a job there when I left the army. It was my childhood dream to work alongside my dad....... I didn't like the job, and quit after one day......... I can still see my wife's face in my minds eye. She had been warned, "people leaving the army sometimes have trouble settling down at first......." Here I was quitting a well paid job after the first day!! My dad and I did end up working alongside one another later in life. This time, it was me who got him the job.
My mother didn't work while she lived with us as a family. When she left us all for another man, she did work full time from then on. I believe she worked at a company called Ferranti assembling electricity meters, or something like that.
I did get a stepmother eventually. First, for five years, a very nice lady called Emily moved in with her son, and we lived as a family for five years. She left in tears because my mother had been in touch with my dad, and wanted a reconciliation. He fell for it, and sent Emily away. My mother only stayed for two weeks. Apparently, it was just a ploy to push her boyfriend into marrying her. It worked too!!
My dad then met the woman who became my stepmother. We got along fine at first, but eventually, I was forced out of the house as I turned 17 years old. This was the reason I joined the army. Because of her, my life went in a direction it would never have done. I met my first wife while I was in the army, and we had two sons eventually. Everything that has happened to me as a result in my life, has been influenced by her making me leave home before I was ready to go. For good, and for bad.
My dad only had one hobby - the horses....... He worked all week, then come Saturday morning, he would study his racing paper religiously. He would read a horses 'form' like how it had gone on in it's last ten races. Then he would pick the one's to place bets on. He generally had accumulator bets of three horses. Say he put the equivalent of a dollar bet. If the first horse won at 3/1, then four dollars would go on the next horse, and so on until the third horse maybe had sixteen dollars on it to win.
He would have maybe three bets of this type. After picking them, he would walk up to the bookmaker's shop, and place his bets. Then, every Saturday afternoon, he would watch the horse racing on the telly. It was so funny watching him jumping up and down in his chair encouraging his nags. When they won, his face was a delight to see. Most of the time he lost of course! But, he loved watching the horses race, and it is a very fond memory of mine. How did this hobby of his influence my life? Well, not to waste money betting on horses of course!!
I do not own a George Foreman grill, or any gadgets of that kind. I understand they are very popular though. Ol George has made more money from those things, than he did boxing! My first wife did buy some things she saw in telly ads. I remember once she bought a small wheel with handles on the side. It sure looked good in the telly ad as an exercise tool. She only used it once, and then it got thrown in a cupboard... When we split up, she left me the wheel as part of the divorce settlement........
If I was 20 years old, and just starting in life, I would like to be an athlete like my hero Sebastian Coe. I would have loved to be a great runner breaking world records like he did.
[/u]Did your mom work outside the home? If so, doing what? She was home for my first seven years then she went to work--she was a Secretary.
What type(s) of work did your dad do? Electrician
Did you have step-parents?
Did your parents/step-parents have any hobbies or interests? My father did a bit of photography, he had a dark room in the basement. My mother did some sewing. My mother always cooked/baked from scratch and I do the same.
How have their occupations or interests influenced your life? I do the sewing. That is about it.
Foodie Questions: What slice of pie would you like today? A slice of grasshopper pie please.
Have you cooked using alcoholic beverages or liqueurs? If so, which ones? Not too much but I have used some wine in some dishes and some liqueurs in some desserts.
Do you own a George Foreman grill or other "As seen on TV" kitchen product?
If so, did/does it work as intended? I own a George Foreman--just messy to clean. I just got a new one.
Just for fun: If you were 20 years old and just starting out in life, which one personal quality would you rather have:
-Athletic as an Olympian?
-Smart as a genius?
-Attractive as a model?
Hmmm, none of those really interest me. Humanitarian personality would interest me.

Today's Questions: Did your mom work outside the home? If so, doing what? Nope, never did.
What type(s) of work did your dad do? Dairy farmer.
Did you have step-parents? Nope.
Did your parents/step-parents have any hobbies or interests? Dad: rabid boxing and football fanatic, loved to play cards with friends. (Dairy farmers have fractured social lives.) Mom did not really have a hobby but she liked to read and do light embroidery. She was an ace seamstress; however, did not like to sew.
How have their occupations or interests influenced your life? Yes. I knew that I could never live the life they had with their restrictions. But to their credit, we lived comfortably, and I'll admit that they lived with less expenses than I do.
Foodie Questions: What slice of pie would you like today? Already had it - key lime pie.
Have you cooked using alcoholic beverages or liqueurs? If so, which ones? Just wine.
Do you own a George Foreman grill or other "As seen on TV" kitchen product? If so, did/does it work as intended? Had one and was not that impressed. I had the cheap model.
Just for fun: If you were 20 years old and just starting out in life, which one personal quality would you rather have: -Athletic as an Olympian? -Smart as a genius? -Attractive as a model? Attractive can still be smart enough to use it right, and likely retain better social skills than many geniuses have.
Happy Thursday!
Thanks, BJH.
