Hi

I sent a mail on Thursday (03/30) through USPS first class mail with insurance coverage for $50. It's a regular envelope and I had printed out from and to addresses. The estimated delivery date was 04/01 and I had urgent need to have them delivered by that day. I was sending a document to my relative to return something to a store and (04/03) would be the last day to do that. If that doesn't happen by Monday, I would lose something worth $30.

Unfortunately USPS delivered the mail to my address mentioned in the 'from' address instead of delivering it to the address in the 'to' address.

I am really upset due to this mishap by USPS. I would like to know how customer friendly is USPS. I am thinking of asking them insurance claim ($50) for this. What do you guys think will happen if I take this case to them? I have my payment receipt, unopened mail with clear from and to address, insurance claim receipt.

Thanks.

They don't guarantee that the mail will arrive in a certain number of days. Even if they hadn't sent it back to you, your relative may not have received it in time.

When a relative from the next state sends mail I usually get it in 2 days, but it's taken as long as 5. When I need someone to receive something in a certain number of days, I pay for next day, 2 day, or three day delivery through USPS or UPS.

You have every right to complain. The insurance is for loss, though, and it's not lost.

Okay I get that. What do you think could they possibly do to help me out? I understand that there wasn't an assurance to get it on a particular day, but I had sent it taking everything into consideration. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't take more than Monday for that mail. I sent it on Thursday around 1:20 pm. The pick up for that day hadn't left the post office... So there were like 4 days for it to reach. It'd have certainly made there by Monday (that's four business days and five calendar days).

I just want to make a claim that would work. Merely refunding will be a loss for me. It was such a blunder from them. I really don't know how I can present my case for the loss that not being there on time.

Seems despite it being so important to the OP to get there on time he did not send it priority.

Evidently the day he wanted it to arrive was not a priority !

Sad,,,,, but first class isn’t what is used to be. I’ve had priority mail delivered late sometimes. If it’s that important, use “overnight” which will guarantee next day delivery however it gets costly.

Sunday isn't considered a business day.

They're not going to give you $30. If you addressed the envelope correctly, they may give you the postage. If it wasn't sent Priority Mail, you don't have a claim for anything more than the postage, and you may not get that.
