Does anybody here have Direct TV? If so what are your thoughts? I'm so fed up with my Cox cable that i just put in a set up order for Direct TV next Sunday.

Is 50 a month with 1 dvr box included a good deal? Its like 150 channels plus HBO. I hope thats a decent deal?

That's about right. I have two boxes, not sure how many channels, but I know there are a lot. Anyway, I pay $65 a month.

Are you happy with Direct? Any negatives?

I don't like it. Whenever it rains, it goes out.

I have some friends who have it, some like it some don't, they told me the weather affects their picture and repairs cost them. I'm pretty tired of cable myself, we only have one cable provider because they bought out the others, no competetion means they got ya where they want ya. I may go to dish myself.

We have had direct tv for a number of years and love it. For us it almost has never gone out and we live in all kinds of weather conditions here. It is worth paying the extra $5 a mo. for the service plan. That way if anything goes wrong it is paid for. I LOVE the east/west programming (costs extra).

I bought a used receiver years ago. It used to go out in heavy cloud cover and rain. It finally died 2 years ago. I bought a brand new HD receiver from Wal-Mart. It hasn't gone out since.

I pay $50 including taxes, for the second tier of programming. That also includes $2 for the Outdoor channel. I really like that if there is a channel that you really want that isn't in your package, you can add on just that channel.

As a new customer you can probably negotiate for some free HD for a few months too.

We've had Directv for over 7 years and wouldn't go back to cable ever. We have no problems at all. People get scared about it because so many people say it goes out everytime it rains. Not true. It has to be a pretty bad storm for ours to go out. I don't think ours has ever gone out for more then 20 minutes during a really bad storm. I think ours went out maybe 5 times from April to November due to rain and we had a lot of rain. When it does go out, it's not an all day thing, it comes back pretty quick and no waiting for someone to come out and fix it.

I have had Direct for several years now (I switched from Dish when they were not carrying Lifetime) and have been very happy with them. These days they have more of the HD programming than either Dish or cable. They have been very responsive when I have had to call them to fix something and have always been able to help me over the phone. I would not switch.

I'm up here in the Appalachian Mountains and I have DirecTV also and we have all kinds of weather up here and I have not had any problems with my satellite TV, when I lived down in Washington, DC area, I had Comcast Cable and everytime a storm would come up the cable would go out, I don't have that problem with my DirecTV.
