In keeping with my current themes - unemployment and passions - which seem to me, today anyway, to be running hand in hand - is there anything big coming up which keeps you looking at the calendar and counting the days?
I thought of this today as I was trying to figure out how much time I have before my car insurance was due (4 days), how much time I have until my youngest son turns 18 (March 13th), how much time I have before his Military Ball (March 26th) how much time I have until my oldest gets married (also March 26th), how much time I have left before the youngest graduates in June, and how much time before someone in a white coat comes to take me away...
It seems not to be the amount of days LEFT until a certain event - but the things which must be done BEFORE you get there, and things looked forward to AFTER it arrives. It seems to me that often times the actual event has taken so much planning, worry, dread, excitement, 'insert description here' - we often miss what we are waiting on.
So with "all kinds of mysterious and wonderful brain things going on inside my head", (from Madagascar - for those of you who have no kids around) - I throw this out to see...what are we counting the days for this year???
KimmieyKY (Let me know when you are sick of my soul searching posts - then I'll start with the good stuff!)
Two days until my daughter transfers up north to UC Berkeley! She's not planning to move back home, either, so this is pretty much it. Good thing my 18-year-old son is still home to keep me from being an empty nester!
Other than that, I'm counting down to some nebulous time in the far future in which I can move out of L.A. for the first time ever!
I completely agree...I feel like I am constantly in a state of anticipation for the next event, and the event flies by and then I am waiting for the next.
Right now...
4 days until my cousin's wedding (I am the matron of honor and VERY tired of my responsibilities)
11 days until my husband has (outpatient) surgery
17 days until my friend's baby shower, which I am helping to plan
and then things should quiet down in February, so my husband and I can start really planning the details of our big move, which will occur at the end of the summer!
Last year was like that for me. We moved just when my middle daughter got engaged. So it was 1 month and go back to MI for dress shopping and finding reception place. 4 months and go back for summer vacation and shower planning. 2 months and we had two showers and then 6 weeks and we had the wedding, and then 2 months and Christmas. All of that and I don't like to fly!
Anyway this year _____ months until I find my perfect house and can actually own a home again! 6 months until vacation, then 5 months until Christmas again (yes I go home to my kids during the holidays).
We've got less than six months until my younger son graduates from high school.
When that happens, we're outta here. And I am counting months, not days, but this will likely change.
Where exactly we're going to *be* is up in the air.
We're hoping that we'll settle at Amelia Island, but are unsure of the employment situation. At the present time, my husband is working on a project there.
And a Partridge in a Pear Tree.....This is so much fun! You guys are all wonderful!
New jobs and kids graduating and new houses and kids marrying and going to school - how do we have time to spend so much time on this board?!
I know - this board is our only sanity until we get to.....how many more days?
