He was a Beautiful horse. Any one know or hear if they were able to save some sperm? His offspring would be something to see.
I saw the owners on Larry King last night and a caller asked that question...they smiled and said No. After this I don't know if I can watch horse racing anymore.....very sad.

I don't think that they did that. Once a horse has gotten laminitis they will get it again and again through out the rest of their lives. It was very unfortunate that he contracted laminitis cuz he was doing well but he had to support all of his weight on the other hooves so that extra weight is what probably cause it.

I am glad that they tried to save him cuz it did bring the equine surgical technology leaps and bounds forward. Plus with the monies donated they are going to build a better surgical unit.

It really is too bad that the JC won't let them do AI cuz they could have passed on some great genes from so many great stallions.

I don't think for one minute it had anything to do with insurance money, they tried everything possible to save him. He would have been more valuable for stud fees than insurance money. Anyone here remember this filly from years back?

Ol' John Henry what a horse he was, When he retired from racing his owners moved him to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky. One of his favorite foods was Carrots, every time my wife and I visited the horse park I always stopped by a grocery store and bought him a bag of Carrots..lol.
I grew up around thoroughbreds and worked with race horses for awhile when I was young, got the opportunity to meet a lot of the owners, trainers and a lot of great race horses. I have a big heart for horses, they are amazing animals.

How sweet!! My husband says he is still alive......he would like to take a vacation and go visit John Henry before he passes. I'm guessing that should probably be soon.

Yep, he's still alive at the ripe old age of 32, it's amazing he's still around at that age. He's been a big attraction for the horse park for many years. If you do go visit take the ol' boy a bag of carrots...he loves them..lol
