No special events taking place in any of the tiny towns nearby. We do fly our flag. I watch some of the news. I too, shed a tear for this incredible act against our country and it's people. Unbelievable. We must never forget. Terrorism still exists. Prayers and thoughts for all of us because we have all been affected by the acts of that day.
Not that I am aware of. We so wanted to fly our flag but weather is not co-operative. We are the only home here that ever flies the flag whereas when we lived in NJ-every house/business had a flag flying.
This is a very painful day even 7 years later. Blessings,prayers to all the families, friends and the wonderful responders.
There is a candle light vigil tonight at the fair grounds. It's really a high school ball park, but that's as big a place as we could find for a gathering of the town. There is another one in a small town just east of here, a remembrance and honoring of firefighters, police, veterans and volunteers of all kinds. i will attend at least one of them. Many more flags are flying today than most days. West Virginia remembers.
I live in a small town so it is doubtful anything formal will take place today. It is a day of remembrance to me, like the day I lost my mother and the day I lost my father. I hope this sad list of days doesn't grow any longer.
I really don't know about plans in our town. I don't work any more and just don't hear about these things. In the past there have been services at the courthouse where different people read the names of the deceased and flags and singing, etc.
We are going to clean out the computer room. Take things to the limit. Make everything fresh and new.
Here on the base it most definitely will be honored...including memorial services throughtout the base today. As always my heart will be in quiet prayer today, in rememberance of that day.
~~~~~I do hope you each enjoy today to it's very fullest~~~~~
What I've been doing is just going over to the local fire station where I live and say hello, to tell them I appreciate the work they do. Same for soldiers I see in uniform, walking around downtown, the mall, etc. Just tell them that the average joe on the street says that we appreciate their service, their efforts, and not just 9-11. Every day as well.
Yes, a few of our Legion halls and a few other places... The PA crash was only about an hour from us, and a lot of our residents are New York commutors..so many of our own died, or knew someone who did, or were there, or supposed to be there. Some of our residents lost their livlihoods, as their jobs were gone as well. One of our ladies lost her husband in the towers, and committed suicide not long after. This day will suck in infimy.
I am sitting here with the very same tears I had 7 years ago! It hurts as much today as it did then. I don't know what our town is doing but I know we are flying our flag and I am reading every thread that is talking about 9/11. I love the USA!! I am proud to be an American.
As we were working at my hospital to make room for patients that never arrived, one of my nurses was talking about her husband, a fireman, who was on his way to the scene. He is one of the many who were in the building when it collapsed ... and one of many who I knew of who never came home that night. My heart aches.
