Yes, that is a problem. I have said, even here on C-D, that everyone should be required to work a service job for at least six months of their lives. "That'll learn 'em, by durn 'em."

Agree 100%! That's why we made our kids take food-service jobs as their introduction to what it's like to work for a living; we wanted to be sure they'd understand in an up-close and personal way just exactly what it's like to be on the receiving end of that kind of thing.
I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who seemingly don't comprehend that the clerk behind the counter did NOT establish that inane policy, and likely is as irritated about it as the customer who is screaming about it is. And the way some folks treat their wait-staff... oh, my. Don't get me started on that this early in the morning, it's not good for my blood pressure.

I think if slavery hadn't been abolished in America, there would be a whole lot of it going on! Everyone in the country would know someone who owns a slave.
People who regard service people as inhuman or devoid of feelings.
ooooooooo I can write a novel on this one. I work via phone with customers and well I can tall you some hair raising stories!
WE are faceless. At least when I was working in a store doing about the same type of work customers would not go too far.... but on the phone the fangs can comeout!

sometimes having a peon job like I do, makes me think America has a new slave labor source they only mask it under the labor laws as being ok since business keep up with those guidelines... to bad customers don't have a law upon how they treat the peons.
then again I am a customer as well... terrible circle that.
I agree completely! I worked in customer service for 20 years, and the way I was treated was crazy! I could give pages and pages of examples of terrible treatment by customers! One that really sticks out was when I worked at the package pickup/security desk at JCP...a woman came to the window to pick up the rug she bought, and when I asked for her receipt, as I was required to do, she flipped and started screaming at me thought the window...as her ice cream cone dripped everywhere!! I just stood my ground and she didn't like it one bit. Oh well! I was only 20 or so; maybe she thought she could scare me into it! She eventually left and came back with the receipt, but I betcha she never thought how many people try to steal things by faking they paid for them! Geez!
