If so does the cremation process produce any smoke or an odor?

I don’t live near one, but if I did and there was smoke and odor I’d contact the county health department. My county takes issue with all types of dust pollution and this would not be tolerated in my way of thinking. They just can’t do that!

By law in the State of AZ they are not allowed to emit any smoke or odor. They must have approved collectors to capture all emissions.
We were at a crematory seminar recently and they showed us the whole process and the subject of smoke and odor was one of the issues discussed. They went over all the legal aspects of what they can and cannot do.
As said above, if you believe you have a crematory in violation contact:
Arizona Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers

If you are thinking about moving to the area of one I would research newspapers, BBB, police records, and health department for any possible violations that were placed against the business.
Also start knocking on doors. Ask the people around the area what they think and if they have had any troubles.

I agree with Nitram. still do your homework. I have heard of some places being below code and have smoking troubles or even just never cremated the bodies... tossed em in the nearby river or buried them out back. Still I believe most all businesses want to be better then established codes and legalities.. so I wouldn't be to alarmed. Just make sure you check it out locally.

One of the funeral homes in town owned some property in a undeveloped area that they planned to build a crematorium on. As the years rolled by the area around it was developed with homes, a park and shopping.

Well, when they applied for the permit, all holy he!! broke out and the permit was denied. In the end, the city bought the property and there is now a Fresh And Easy Market on the property.

Holy smoke, this hot topic really burns me up. What a way to urn a living.
However, if a half baked crematorium pollutes, they should get their ash kicked. That's my view. Please don't flame me.
