I have 2 small helium tanks that I need to get rid of, in case if you are wondering my son loves ballons and my sister has given him the tanks that they sell in the party store. We are moving and I don't know how to get rid of them. I have a gas one as well but I believe I can take that to Home Depot and give it to them but the helium is another thing. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Take them to a welding gases supply place...look in yellow pages under welding supplies. Call first.

Look in the phone book for industrial gas suppliers. Give 'em a call...maybe they can help. Or call a florist that does balloons. Couldn't hurt to try, right? You might also look at the box that the tank came in (or go to the store and look) and see what it says about what to do with the tank. Good for you for at least trying to do the right thing!

Look on the neck of the bottle to see what company may "own" it. The gas bottles may not be customer owned and if not the ONLY gas company that is allowed by law to fill them is the rightful owner (the industrial gas company, that is). Call them and I'm sure they will be happy to have their bottles back. FYI, if the bottle is not a customer owned bottle it is illegal for anyone to buy it or sell it. If it is a customer owned bottle then you can call a local welding supply/industrial gas supplier and see if they are interested in buying it. If the bottle is out of test date it will be worth very little but still may be worth something to them.

As for the helium tanks, if they are the disposable kinds they are worth nothing to anyone.

go to freecycle.org, sign up for your local group, and offer them. I bet you'll have someone emailing you right away, wanting them.

If they are not customer owned they are of no use to anyone at all as by law and all federal and state regulations the only gas company that can refill them is the rightful owner. If the helium tanks are the cheapy throw aways/disposable they are of no use to anyone at all.
