Can you tell me what this area is like to be living in for a family?

Affluent and peaceful

Suburban with no real walkable town centre

Very family-oriented

Auto-dependent locally but with decent express bus links to downtown Ottawa

Home of the Ottawa Senators NHL hockey arena

Dynamic local hi-tech industry

25 km west of downtown Ottawa

Thanks Jack! Sounds like a great place to live and raise a family. I was wondering what the schools are like? Have you heard of Cyrium Technologies?

I don't know much about individual hi-tech companies, but Kanata is known as Silicon Valley North, BTW.

As for schools, they would generally be quite good in this area. Ontario has both publicly-funded non-denominational public schools, and also publicly-funded Catholic schools.

Note also that there is a phenomenon particular to the Ottawa area (because of the presence of the Canadian federal government) whereby some "skimming" of the top students occurs in all school boards into "French immersion" schools. Basically, these are schools run by English-language school boards but where most of the day (except English grammar and literature of course) is taught in French. Math in French, Science in French, gym class in French, etc. You get the picture.

Both the Catholic and non-denominational schools offer French immersion. Of course, they also have many "regular" program schools with all day in English similar to what you would find in the States, except that the second language taught is French rather than Spanish.
