I fell in love with the capital city of Canada, enough to relocate myself to this majestic looking city. There is nothing like seeing the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill and the flag of Canada flying on top of it everyday to remind myself just how fortunate I am being a citizen of this great country.

Now, I just need a job so that I can be productive, pay taxes and make contribution to the country I love. According to Stat Can, national unemployment rate is at all time low, at 5.7%, which is truly excellent. Ottawa is doing even better at 5.5%, 0.2% lower than national average. Credos to our current government. This is all very good news to someone like me who is looking hard for work.

What was your experience like seeking jobs in Ottawa? How long did it take you to finally find a job? Did you have to make compromises? Were you able to find a job in your own field? Did you have help? Any tips or suggestions that will help speed up the process?

Please share.

Thanks, Acajack.

What about jobs in private sector? Is it hard to find jobs there in comparison? What is your experience like?

I gather the government creates the majority of jobs in Ottawa but they can be a bit complicated to get. Application for security clearance can be a lengthy process which hinders the opportunity to actually obtain an immediately available position. I am a Canadian citizen with no criminal record, and yet I am not entirely sure if I'd be able to get clearance. I can't even apply for it myself without a potential employer doing it on my behalf. It's all very complicated to me. Jobs in private sector seem relatively straight forward.

I am hoping more people would share their experiences in finding and obtaining jobs in Ottawa, both private and public sectors. I've been in Ottawa for almost a month now, and things have been rather slow....
