Anyone know of a town, besides Asheville, where a 62yo pagan would be comfortable? We currently live in Oriental NC, near the coast. My husband wants to move, which is okay with me, and as we both are retired we don't have to worry about jobs. I want a place where my non-christian beliefs would not cause problems as well as my very left-wing political leanings. For some reason he doesn't want to look in Asheville. Any ideas?

Greenville, South Carolina is good. I have a very good Pagan friend who lives there! Check it out!
Chapel Hill is nice based on the criteria you gave there or neighboring Carrboro would be a solid bet. Greensboro is also nice, and while it is not conservative, it certainly is not as liberal as Chapel Hill or Asheville.
Do you really have to stay in NC? Greenville is only 5 hours from Asheville, NC. And has that same feel.
Boone is a very nice town not big on jobs though.
