pnc66: Congratulations! I didn't know what Beltane was until Wikipedia mentioned it on their home page and I looked up the article on it.

Wiccans are definitely the coolest religious friends I have. They have never yet tried to proselytize to me in any way.

I am not any of the above people that you listed...but I still felt your well wishes were addressed to anyone and everyone, so I graciously accept them- I need all the good energy I can get! Thank you, and happy Beltane to you as well.

There is an Irish song for Beltaine...forgive the misspelling, Thugamar fein an Samhradh Linn. Which if memory serve me correctly translates as "we bring summer with us."

On this day hearth fires were extinguished and young girls would come through the village singing this song and give a new fire for the households.

I found a version of the song that's a bit faster than the one I remember, which was sung by young girls.

IMO these old holidays are good to remember, not only for neopagans/Wiccans, but because they are reminders of our connections to nature and the turning of the seasons. Many people seem to have lost track to the point where they can't even determine the directions of north, south, east and west by the sun anymore.
