My sons are 8 and 6. Gymboree seems to be a bit on the 'baby' side of my 8 year old, but he prefers preppy clothes compared to skater-type clothes.
Where do you shop for school aged boys? I think we're slowly growing out of Gymboree but Dillard's is too 'rough' for him (browns, blacks, 'boring' in his words). He likes bright colors, collared shirts, plaids, etc. Preppy, for sure.
Gone are the days I could just bring home a bag of clothes that he'd be happy with. And he hates shopping.
Any ideas?

Old Navy, Target, occasionally Abercrombie Kids, Gap, Kohls, and Wal-Mart for basics such as underwear and socks.

Lands End.... check the Overstocks section for Boys. You usually find TONS of great stuff there at reduced prices.

Sears. They sell a brand called Toughskins and they are great. I bought 4 outfits for him at the beginning of last school year and the shirts lasted the whole year and didn't look worn out at all.

Lands End and Sears, mostly. Sear's bought Lands End a few years ago and now also carries some of the Lands End clothing and products in it's Sears stores now.

If you shop at Lands End and need to return or exchange something, it's really convenient to just run it up to Sears to do that rather than having to mail it back and go through all that.

We also like L.L. Bean and MiniBoden, but we watch for the sales. MiniBoden is $$ but the quality is very good. We've passed things down for years that we bought at MiniBoden and they still look practically brand new. Pretty amazing because our boys are tough on everything!

We like L.L. Bean backpacks better than Lands End Backpacks. L.L. Bean stuff seems to hold up better than the Lands End stuff, but the Lands End stuff is more affordable...

I can't stand Old Navy/Gap/A&F/Target/etc. Cheap cheap cheap... falls apart and starts looking bad too quick. If we're buying new clothing, rather than hitting the thrift stores, we're going to buy quality stuff so it lasts awhile.

OH! We also hit the Ralph Lauren Polo outlet store near us for sweats. They have great dressy clothes and really comfy sweats for boys. Socks and undies, too.
