They deal with it by having the older ones take care of the younger ones, and have the kids do the majority of all the household chores.

They also seem to use much more strict disciplinary approaches than the modern, small-size family.

I knew a woman who was a serial adopter.20 in all. Whenever she was asked how they did it she would explain "The older ones help a lot with the younger ones". After 23 years of marriage they got a nasty divorce and the husband sued for custody of the children left at home.
One after another the older kids told tales of how they got stuck taking care of children- most with special needs- and had no childhood of their own.
This woman had multiple affairs, and lost her entire family. Ex is now raising 4 kids alone except for the grown kids who voluntarily help out but he never asks for their help. Wife has remarried and is trying to adopt again. She is notorious in Florida for adoption scams and losing her license.

I think it would be impossible to have that many children without a great deal of sacrifice on the part of the older ones.

That enrages me. Those children will never be able to have a normal childhood!

Here's a forum that deals w/ tons of kids that might be able to answer this. I myself chose to deal w/ tons of pets and only have one kid.

i have 2 kids and tons of pets and a no vacancy sign out front! LMAO!

imo, you just cant give the kids the individual attention they need when you have a ton of them (as in those extreme cases like the duggars) and its not fair to the older ones to have to, essentially, rear the younger ones.

dont get me wrong, my oldest (12) looks after my little one (5) all the time (outside, when i make a quick run to the store, etc) but she isnt 'mom'.

Like so many previous generations have done.
