This has been used rightly or wrongly for a long time. Forced to face your fears. Most likely this is how they were raised. I know it surprises many here-but when you are raised that way you don't see anything wrong with it. Course it helps to read a book on parenting....

Hummm... With that line of thinking, rape victims will "get used to it" if they are forcibly raped multiple times?
And the 4 year old dog I adopted will get over being afraid of enclosed spaces if I force it into a cage and lock the door?
I think NOT!
Note I had my head forcibly held under water the first time I went into a swimming pool and ever since don't like water on my head - had LOTS of trouble later on learning how to swim because I did not want to put my head under water.
