Good idea but it shouldn't be necessary. If I'm paying for a kid's phone and he is living in my house I would simply take his phone away. It would only take one time.
Although, some good points. You can lock their phone during school hours. That's really hard to do, I never found an ap for that.
My kids have an iPad, but actually, I have two. Because they are mine. Same with phones.
On some carriers like Verizon those sorts of features can be enabled through the master account settings. You can lock the phone down during select hours but still leave it able to call/text 911 or selected numbers so the phone isn't completely useless if really needed. Not every carrier offers these options however.

True, but you can get around it with apps that allow you to make ip based phone calls.

Yeah I had "smart controls" on my fosters phone, but she still had her aps
We lock out their phones after 9;30 on school nights. During the week day, our teens get the phones when they are done with homework and they do not get them during the weekday.
The reason ; they were getting grades that we didn't think were good enough and found that if they had their phones during the day, they didn't do well at school. We have down it for three weeks now, and our not great student 15 year old has gone from a 67 in chem to 90. Our other student who is 14 has also improved big time (he is in all honors and getting 80's.)

Never had to use anything like this...she knows better than to ignore texts from family even now she's at college. We also have never ignored her calls/texts either.
