I have this issue with my 8 year old and all she can really wear is leggings that end up baggy like pants. I assume by 12 (unless her body changes) I will be getting her pants altered. Its not too expensive

The junior sizes are the way to go. A lot of them aren't made for girls with much hips or behind, my 12 year old has grown hips and she does better with ladies sizes than junior sizes now. It's true that junior sizes won't come with the adjustable waistband, but you can definitely find them small enough in the waist to fit.

I have had this problem with both my daughter (age 14; she is growing out of it) and my son (age 12). The only brand we have found that really fits them is Abercrombie. They have Slim sizes that fit around the waist and are long enough.

I had this problem with my daughter for a while- thank goodness for skirts (she loved them) and living in a place where shorts were worn year-round. I fondly remember her still fitting into 2T shorts as a 6yo because of waist size (they were super short on her, though). By the time we moved to a cooler place, she had filled out some. She's 13 now and around 5'8 or taller, and she wears 16s. Loose Yoga Pants and long skirts are also great things for her.

My son, on the other hand, is 15 and skinny as a rail. He's not super tall (several inches shorter than his younger sister), but finding pants for him is much more challenging. He wears 14s for length, but they are almost double what he needs in the waist. I find getting him slim sizes and/or skinny jeans and using a belt (or having pants that adjust on the inside) really helps. It still bunches up around the waist, but he usually wears longer t-shirts so that isn't such a big deal. The bunching probably makes him look a little less skinny

DD is OP is now 6 weeks away from being 15. She still looks like a pony with long legs and won't wear skirts.

My 11-year-old daughter has the same problem. She winds up crying during every shopping trip.

It's a crapshoot when it comes to brands that fit. Justice has half and slim sizes, have you tried them?
Other than that it's trial and error. Old Navy, H&M, Forever 21. My daughter hates the adjustable waist pants but at least she can go up a size for length.

She is really happy about fitting into Junior XS/small tops.

This is the brand I used for my daughter. I ordered from Abercrombie Kids online and you can return to any Abercrmobie store (doesn't have to be kids). It was so nice for her to have jeans that fit properly. She fits into regular sizes now that she has filled out.

All of Old Navy's kids' jeans come with adjustable waists, and they go up to size 16. They also come in slim cuts.

My super skinny boy does ok with Old Navy but what they really need is between sizes. He's 12, almost 13, and wearing 14s for the needed length. But even the slims are somewhat too big. They have the adjustable waist so they are not falling down but they are still bunchy.

When he was younger, I was able to buy Wrangler jeans in odd sizes - 9 and 11. But they seem to stop after that and don't come in a size 13 for boys, plus he can't wear jeans at his current school.

Luckily he doesn't care much about clothes, but it would still be nice to be able to buy things that fit. He keeps getting taller but not any wider, yet the sizes keep getting wider as they get longer!
