I've heard that if you look a a girl's mother, you'll get a sneak peek at how she will look and behave a few decades down the road. Is there any truth to this statement, or is it largely a generalization?

Hasn't been true for my family.

Is it true for you and your family?

not true here either

but it may be true that a girl may take up ways from her mother and that may be a look ahead to the future.

Too large a generalization by a huge margin.

Makes me wonder why you are even asking.

I've lived my life in diametric opposition to how my mother lives her life and conducts herself. I may end up looking like her (we have similar facial features), but I sincerely doubt I will ever be like her. And that's deliberate.

My sister is just like my mom.

I am just like my dad.

I didn't know my husband's father (he passed away before we met), but he was definitely not like his mother.

Right now my kids have both my husband's and my traits - there's no telling whether they'll turn into mini-mes or mini-hims.

Well, I do look a lot like my mom. People comment that we "look like sisters" all the time. But my two younger sisters look nothing like her. It's interesting. I have her looks but my dad's personality. My middle sister definitely takes after my dad's side of the family physically (she looks exactly like one of our aunts) yet has my mom's personality. My youngest sister is a mix on both counts.

Not everyone looks like their mother...my sisters and I all take after our father. My middle sister acts exactly like our mother, but I don't, and neither does my younger sister.

With my kids, my oldest has her dad's body shape and facial features, and my youngest looks just like my baby sister did when she was a kid.
