I had Hungry Hungry Hippos when I was a child. You are right, those clacking mouths and rolling marbles are enough to drive even the most patient parent crazy. I'll save that as a possibility for the 5th or 6th birthday

I didn't read all the suggestions, but my ex and I also enjoyed this game until we had our own. Prior gifts included band set, anything with batteries and remote control, 30 foot stuffed snake, and when a little bit older, easy bake oven.

Just remember, payback is a beotch, even if 10 years later.

Parenting a two year old is difficult enough without some smart ass going out of their way to make it harder. Why buy him a toy that he wont get to play with?

It's a sibling thing...and the point is not to give something that that will be taken away - just the opposite. My brother housed that 30 foot snake for many years. And, I can't think of one toy that was ever withheld.

Oh how my life would have been different had I read your post 7 years ago!
So sorry....haha

I'm one who has to be organized so I always find a way to do so! Plus 33 years as a parent and 16 yrs or so in Child Care and I've learned to search out unconventional ways to make it work!

Afraid he's too young, but Legos. Those dang things are sharp when you step on them at 2 am.

You could try a piece of sporting equipment for a sport the parents hate, or a shirt with a team logo of a team the parents hate.

Oh...the kid will want to play with it. My BIL went through the entire toy store to find the loudest toy for my daughter's first birthday....and believe me...he found it and our daughter loved it. The Elmo Phone soon 'broke'...but it still was played.......with silently.

However it's also a great family story to this day.....and though BIL never had children of his own...he married a woman later in life who has two young grandsons that were often at their home...my hubby made sure to return the favor for their toy chest. .

UPDATE: So thanks to the Amazon gods, they delivered the box of 40 Jumbo Moxx Bloxx to my nephew in time for the birthday party. The adults put them together, of course, and as predicted by the parents here who suggested it, the gift was a HUGE hit! Both my two year old nephew and his 9 year old nephew love it, have played with them every day, and he has played with it more than any other present he got. My BIL even built towers with it. Thanks for the great suggestion, everyone!
