Hi yall.

I'm currently working as a site lead for the YMCA for their after school program. We have a large group of kids for several hours after school. We have a pretty even split of young ones and older kids(3,4,5th) and mostly boys.

Our older boys are clearly bored with the toys we do have on hand, and I'm hoping for some good ideas for sturdy toys that a small group of boys could use. Our older girls are really into drawing and board games but the boys not so much and they are starting to cause trouble.
We do go to the playground but only for about an hour right now(its still mid 90's here) and they are my group that also stays 'till the end, so they really start to get bored.

We have board games, Lego and are getting hot wheels this week. We also have play dough, dramatic play(kitchen, dress up) books and blocks but they aren't very interested in the latter.
I want to see if we can place an order for those mazes inside the clear balls(can't remember what they are called) but that only works for a single kid, not the group of 10ish we have.

Anything your classroom or kids really enjoy in that age range?

Boys that age would enjoy air hockey or foos ball table. Maybe ping pong? A video game system. Sports games - soccer, flag football, kickball, capture the flag.

When I was that age, I enjoyed playing with my chemistry set, which included a small bottle of sodium cyanide solution.

I don't suppose that such sets are available now.

Practicing my marksmanship in the basement by shooting Necco wafers into fragments with my BB gun was fun, too. .

For some reason I don't see them handing out BB guns, and Chemistry set at the YMCA....

Riley09 came up with the best answer ever. Totally age appropriate and kids will love it. Instead of new maybe hit some garage sales to see about buying used or look for donations.

.

Shooting any type of projectiles is fun to a young man and it doesn't stop as you age.

I agree with Foosball table or Air hockey or bumper pool... If you get on one of your local Facebook Swap or Selling pages, you can see if anyone has anything to donate as they get a tax write off. When I show houses, I often see ping pong tables in the garage that people are probably more than happy to part with.
